  • that inhabitants of island Zlarin started going in for extracting and processing corals even in the 15th century but its real blooming happened in the 19th century

  • Today, on Zlarin there is only one small workshop for processing corals, so the real extinction threatens to this once very important occupation. Also, architectural monuments found on Zlarin show that the island was inhabited in the early Stone Age and during the period of Roman rule over these lands. During the period of Venetian rule, Zlarin was one of the scouting-signalling points and station of special naval garrison, whose duty was to secure navigation through Sibenik's local sea, threatened by the attacks of the Turks, pirates and fugitives. Since 1826, Zlarin became the centre of municipality, which also included villages on Prvic, Krapanj, Kaprije and Zirje. In 1887, the inhabitants of Zlarin succeeded to introduce national language in the municipal administration, and ten years later the island's representation went into hands of the Narodna Stranka (National Party).

  • that there are several explanations on how Sibenik got its name and the science doesn't accept any of these explanations as secure or precise one

  • Sibenik's humanist and writer Juraj Sizgoric (1420-1509) in his work about the position of Sibenik, says that Sibenik got its name due to the switches, which surrounded the town. The name Sibenik is also put into connection with forest due to the toponym sibin (Sibinicum), which derives from the Late Latin that is early-Roman form silvona, silvonae or silvone. The title sibin covered the narrow micro region of Sibenik, on and around the hill where the Fortress of Saint Anna stood. Historian Petar Kaer (1848-1919) thought that Sibenik got its name after a noble Croatian family Subic, while certain scientist point to the preindoeuropean root sib-sip, which means flow or drip, which coincides with numerous water springs in rocky Sibenik.

  • that Zirje is the most distant populated island of Sibenik, placed 20.4km south-west of Sibenik and with around 150 inhabitants

  • To the north of Zirje there are islands Kakan and Kaprije, while to the northwest there is the National Park Kornati. The island's length is 12 kilometres, the latitude is 2600 metres, while the length of the coastline is 39.200 metres. There is the place of the same name Zirje, while the bays such as Muna, Koromasna and Stupica are still populated. The highest insular top is Kapic, 131 metres high. The island was populated in the ancient Iron Age. Zirje was governed by the ancient Rome and Byzantines, while in the 9th century it became the property of the Croatian rulers. The permanent village on the island existed even before 1298 when it was mentioned for the first time. The biggest and the most beautiful bay on the island is Velika stupica above whom there is the fortress Gradina, built in the 6th century by the Byzantine emperor Justinijan. In the inner part of the island, on the whole its length there is a fertile field. The biggest part of the island is covered with thick pinewood, while all the places, lookouts and bays are connected with the net of roads suitable for the fans of bycicles. The boaters often visit bays Mikavica on the northwest and Tratinska on the south west of the island.

  • that on Prvic Island in the Church of Lady Of Mercy from the 15th century, in the centre of Prvic Luka, at his own request, a great Croatian scientist Faust Vrancic was buried

  • Faust Vrancic (1551-1594) is the author of the famous piece Machinae Novae (New Machines), one of the greatest European minds, multi historian, philosopher, inventor and lexicographer, also a man who published the first dictionary of Croatian language and constructed the first usable parachute. New Machines by Vrancic were printed in Venice in 1595; while the second edition was published in Venice in 1605. Both the first and second original editions of this work are great rarity these days and it can only be found in bigger libraries. Sibenik's museum has one copy, while the National And University Library in Zagreb has the copies of both editions each. The first reprint of this valuable book original in our country (the reprints were already published in Munich in 1965, Milan in 1968 and Budapest in 1985) was issued by town library "Juraj Sizgoric" from Sibenik and "Novi liber" from Zagreb in 1993.

  • that the Foundation for donkey protection 'Hrvatski tovar' was founded in Tribunj, with the intention to protect this noble animal from extinction

  • Although mostly fishermen place, also these days oriented on tourist progress, for the last few years, Tribunj has become well known for its donkey protection. This noble animal, that played one of the most important roles in human history, received its own natural reservation on Tribunj's small island Lukovnjak, whose maintenance is taken care of by the foundation "Hrvatski tovar" (Croatian donkey). The contribution of donkey is woven into every Dalmatian house, vineyards, and olive-groves, dry stonewall and round karsts valleys, but also in great architectural works made in Dalmatian towns. Due to all these things, the inhabitants of Tribunj first decided to pay respect to this animal, without whose contribution Tribunj wouldn't exist. This place, 14 kilometres from Sibenik, 2 kilometres from Vodice, every first weekend in August it organizes a big party dedicated to donkeys, while the final part of this manifestation is local donkey race that gathers up to ten thousand guests.

Harve was performed. Sibenik's miscellaneous choir Kolo often participated in these operettas. The operetta existed in Sibenik until 1957.

  • that Croatia doesn't have any mountain top higher than 2000 metres, while the highest top (Dinara, 1831 meters) is situated on the area of Sibenik-Knin County

  • Along the sea, there are the highest and most beautiful Croatian mountains: Ucka and Cicarija in Istra, Obruc and Snjeznik in the Croatian Littoral, then Biokovo, Kozjak, Svilaja, Promina, Mosor in Dalmatia, while Velebit puts itself forward with its magnificent beauty and magnitude. Since the Croatian mountains are easily reachable and offer a lot of attractive destinations, the possibilities to visit them are unlimited. However, those interested in the Highest Croatian top - Dinara - can visit the recently reconstructed climbers' lodging Brezovac. The capacity of lodging is 40 beds, from which you can reach Dinara top in a three hour walk. You can reach Brezovac by bus, from Knin and Guga to so called "Grob" (Grave - big parking lot), from where you can get a 80 minutes pleasant walk to the climbers' lodging. The same parking lot is recommended for personal cars, from where you can reach the lodging with all-terrain vehicles.

  • that true presentations of private accommodation and contact without mediator are the main reasons of popularity gained among tourists

  • Besides being specialized for this part of the Adriatic, Info Adriatic visits, takes photos of, describes and valuates distances of each accommodation. Many sites, however, publish data sent by renters without previous control. They are not interested whether these data are true (and mostly they are not!) nor they are interested in guests' pleasure. They only care to get paid by advertisers. Luckily, there are more and more of less naive tourists who believe to those sites whose owner has never been on the "field" and are also "specialized" in whole Croatia. Beside this, many sites (although they write about direct contact) mediate between a guest and a renter. For certain provision, of course. Info Adriatic guarantees direct contact, without mediators. More than thousand visitors per day, interested to see the destinations on this part of the Adriatic, are the best measure of popularity that Info Adriatic enjoys among tourists.
