Did you know

  • that 'Morinjski zaljev', limited by Sibenik's Donje Polje and Jadrtovac, is very abundant with layers of healing pollen silt, of the best quality in Croatia

  • Less than 300 thousand square meters of one nautical mile long Morinjski zaljev (Morinj Bay), there are layers of five millions cubic metres of pollen silt. On the average, they are seven meters, but on certain places even twelve metres high. The Board for health tourism and natural medicine at the Academy of medical science of Croatia has issued a certificate that confirms from the highest health level the possibility to use this silt for medical purposes. By diluting it with a proper water quantity, heating and satisfying health and sanitary rules, pollen can be used for treatment of cardiovascular system, neurological, rheumatic and skin diseases and disorders, as well as the disorders of metabolism, system, kidneys, digestive, urinary and respiration systems. Inspite of high levelled and scientifically established potential, so far there hasn't been constructed any building of scientific and tourist contents, but many visitors come here individually to have a bath or put on themselves this healing silt.

  • that Murter is the biggest insular village in Sibenik-Knin County

  • The inhabitants of Murter became the owners of island's major part in Kornati archipelago and National Park Kornati from 1859 till 1896. The old part of Murter is placed underneath Raduc hill and is drawn toward the inner part of the island. The newer part was built in Hramina Bay in which the marina with the same name is placed. In the recent years, Murter has spread all the way to Slanica Bay on the south-western part of the island. Today this fishermen and farmers' village of Kornati is the most favourite destination of native and foreign tourists. You can reach Murter by driving on a road that separates from the Adriatic Highway by Kapela. However, three navigable ways that lead to Murter port are more attractive. One of them leads through Murter Channel where between the mainland of Murter Island and Tisno, a movable bridge is placed.

  • that the area of Roski slap is the furthest north point where, due to the influence of mild Mediterranean climate, succeed olive-trees

  • Roski slap is placed on the contact of warm and dry and humid and shady places, and because of the rich canyon's vegetation it is very interesting to botanists. The name Roski Slap derives from the toponym of the fortress Rog. The main cascade is placed at the end of travertine barrier where the river Krka swoops down from 15 meters altitude. Of all travertine forms on Roski Slap there are caves, furrows, thresholds, small barriers and cones. The cones appear on the foot of the main cascade and represent the specific quality of Roski slap. In 1910, on the right bank of the river there was constructed rapid hydroelectric power plant "Roski slap". Across the travertine barriers there is a road that connected the bank of river Krka even in the Roman times.

  • that from the 16th until 23rd September 1991 the battle for Sibenik's defence was fought, which started with the general attack on the city from land, sea and air

  • The population of Sibenik was called into shelters with the siren on the 16th September in 17:57 where they remained for full seven days, until the siren on the 23rd September in 11:27 didn't mark the end of September's war in Sibenik. During these days the Yugoslav aggressor destructed many town's historical and cultural buildings with missiles, among which even the cupola of Saint James's Cathedral. The brave defenders of Sibenik resisted the aggressors' attacks thanks to the excellent artillerists from Zecevo, Jelinjak, Dubrava, Razor, Smricnjak, Zirje and other points. The enemy had more dead people and enormous loss in techniques. The defenders had three killed soldiers, 113 wounded (of whom 64 civilians) and seven killed civilians. That battle, which defended Sibenik, but also undermined the conquest of all Southern Croatia, was righteously called Sibenik's war exploit.
