  • Since all important institutions, buildings and historical monuments are in a very town centre, the best thing to do is leave your car one of town parking lots. The biggest parking lots are in the very town centre and are divided in sections. There are coin-operated machines for buying parking tickets. If there are no machines or you don't have coins, you can buy your ticket from a parking keeper. On Saturday afternoons and on Sundays you don't have to pay parking tickets. Leaving your car on forbidden places is fined on the spot or by transfer of your car on the scheduled places. The fine on the spot is paid to a policeman, but if a driver isn't in his/her car, the policeman leaves under the car's wind-screen wiper a notice about the violation and the sum of fine. If your car has been transferred by a so called "pauk" it is best to call police station on phone number 92 for taking over your vehicle.

The length of Sibenik's port is ten kilometres, the width from 300 to 1200 metres, while the depth is from 8 to 40 metres. In 1998, on the entrance of the Channel of Saint Ante there has been put the system of signalling to boats, which looks like a traffic lights. Since then the safety of navigation through Sibenik's Channel has been controlled by a light system connected with a computer on the safety station based on Jadrija (on the entrance in the Channel from the sea). That electronic device, also a Croatian product, is news on the Mediterranean. The novelty are beacons (green and red light), which can be seen even up to 2,5 kilometres during the day. • that Sibenik, in spite of its modern car-ferry landing, is not connected with direct ferry line with neighbouring Italy

  • The ferries towards Italy sail from Split and from Zadar, while these lines from Sibenik are organized only according to the needs during tourist season. During the summer the passengers' boats on intercity and international lines land in Sibenik. Concerning local passenger boats' lines, they sail every day to the populated islands of Sibenik area - Zlarin, Prvic (Luka e Sepurine), Kaprije, Zirje and Obonjan, while you can also reach Vodice by boat. The boats from Sibenik start from the pier Krka, where they land on their return. The tickets can be bought in the office of Jadrolinija on the Shore, and only in special cases the tickets can be bought on the boats. Those who wish to visit Krapanj, the lowest populated island on the Adriatic Sea; you can look for a boat connection in Brodarica, from where you can reach the island of spongers by local boat transport. The visit to the National Park Kornati is organized with the help of tourist agencies and private transporters.

  • that the 300th anniversary of sponge harvesting was recently held on Krapanj Island

  • Island Krapanj is the lowest and smallest inhabited island on the Adriatic. With its 2.9 kilometres of well-indented coast, 0.4 square kilometres of surface and 1.5 metres of height above the sea-level, Krapanj is also the denser inhabited island. The legend says that the people of Krapanj were taught to harvest sponges by a Greek from Crete, monk named Antun, at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1704 he also brought the knowledge on sponge processing on the island, which were later exported to Venice. At first, the sponges were harvested with fish spears from boats, a technique which was used by some of the sponge harvesters from Krapanj until the 60s and 70s of the last century. Krapanj's sponge harvesting reached its peak in 1912 when up to 400 thousand sponges were sold in Italy, France and Germany. In 1946 a company Spuzvar (Sponge harvester) was founded, in which 32 divers were working and they went to harvest for sponges in 10 to 12 teams. Today, there are five teams of sponge harvesters on Krapanj, who annually harvest three to five thousand kilograms of sponges. Each team has one or eventually two divers.

  • that the best period for visiting the Croatian coast is from April until October, and that in summer the sea temperature reaches 26°C

  • You can have vacation from March, when, in spite sudden unpleasant rain showers, you can already feel the arrival of warm summer. The air temperature in summer period reaches up to 38, while sea surface reaches pleasant 26°C. Early autumn, that is September and October, are also ideal for vacation, which not many tourists take advantage of and know about it. The beaches are not crowded and the weather is still stable, as well as the sea temperature that is still pleasant for swimming. However, the Croatian coast can be travelled even in winter months. Natural and cultural sights, gastronomic and catering offer are at your disposal during the whole year. However, in spite of the mild Mediterranean climate, be sure to wear warm clothes and shoes, because the northern wind can be quite unpleasant. Take into consideration even the holidays in Croatia: 1st January - New Year, 6th January - Epiphany, Easter Monday, 1st May - Work holiday, the Whit Sunday (Pentecost) - mobile holiday, the 22nd June - the Day of Victory over Fascism, 25th June - the Day of Sovereignty, the 5th August - the National Gratitude Day, 15th August - the Feast of the Assumption, the 8th October - the Independence Day, 1st November - All Saints' Day, 25 and 26th December - Christmas holiday.

  • that even today in Sibenik you can find wine-shops (taverns) where you can mostly buy home-made wine

  • It is interesting to know that these wine-shops still maintain the old tradition of putting signs that say what type of wine is sold there: branch of juniper-tree for red, pine branch for opol (new wine) and olive branch for white wine. While they were placed all over town centre, workers, farmers, fishermen, craftsmen and peasants often visited these wine-shops. Coastal workers were the best sign of wine quality, because wherever they would spend time, the wine would be better sold. Cards were usually played in the wine-shops, then mura (play with fingers) and often there would be singing. These places were the source of talented singers among who many became the excellent singers of Sibenik choir Kolo or some of numerous Sibenik's klapa. There was always lively before municipal or parliamentary elections, when the parties fought for the electors' preference. Although the old Sibenik's wine-shops are almost quite disappeared, tavern's spirit is still present in Sibenik's way of life.
